AN ALL-STAR line-up has been unveiled for Wickham Festival 2017.

Headliners include KT Tunstall, Seth Lakeman and The Levellers alongside Eliza Carthy, 10CC, Show of Hands and The Selecter at the event which runs from August 3 to 6.

Festival favourites Oyster Band, Andy Fairweather Low, Peatbog Faeries and the Spooky Men’s Chorale are also putting on special appearances.

Organiser Peter Chegwyn said: “In many ways we are returning to our roots with a very strong folk line-up which will appeal to the many regulars who come year after year as well as our new generation of fans.

“That has been reflected in advance tickets sales which are well up on those of previous years. The response has been fantastic and shows the appeal of the artists as well as the event itself.

“We had hundreds of fans booking for this year’s festival even before we had finished clearing the site last August. People trust us to put on a great event with a terrific line-up and a wonderful atmosphere.

“Regulars know what they are getting and they like it. There is a real family-friendly feel to this event. Parents can let their children roam safely while they relax and enjoy the great music, sample the fine food and beers or browse round the many stalls.

“There are plenty of free activities for youngsters from bouncy castles to story-telling.”

The line-up also includes Ferocious Dog, the Men They Couldn’t Hang, John Otway, Kathryn Tickell, Tankus the Henge and Fisherman’s Friends.

Peter continued: “This event has really taken off in the past few years and even though we have extended our capacity we are still selling out so I would advise fans to book early – and claim a saving too.

“The festival has really put Wickham on the map with fans coming from as far as America and Scandinavia to enjoy our unique atmosphere and I am sure this year’s event will be the best yet.”

Festival-goers will also be having a laugh with the addition of a late night comedy stage.

Organisers have announced a line-up for the stage topped by Tom Walker, better known as Internet sensation Jonathan Pie, the frustrated news reporter known for venting in unguarded “off-camera” rants.

Walker will be appearing for a Q&A session and to talk through why he does what he does, the inspiration behind the character and all things politics.

Peter added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Tom Walker as our major headline act.

“As Jonathan Pie, he has a huge following with fans loving his vitriolic but very perceptive rants at those in positions of power. The language might be a little blue but at 11pm, we don’t expect this to be a problem.

“I know only too well that some of his material is very near the knuckle but it is incredibly astute and very funny.

“The music has to finish at 11pm but we know a lot of festival-goers are not yet ready to turn in so we thought a comedy stage would be the perfect compromise, great entertainment with no noise problems.”

Walker will be joined by a host of other acts including James Veitch, Zoe Lyons, David Morgan and Tom Deacon.

Weekend tickets cost £160 with day tickets available at £50 (or £35 on Thursday, August 3).

Those aged 11-16 get in for half price with under-tens admitted free.
