NEARLY 100 scarecrows have taken over a village near Winchester.

Droxford's Scarecrow Festival featured 91 entries on display in gardens, outside businesses and in a number of public spots.

Families have been busy creating their work using straw, frames and sacks since the beginning of the month.

Entries include a burglar on a drainpipe, Donald Trump, complete with his much-wanted wall, and popstar Ed Sheeran.

The festival is due to finish with a fun party on Saturday, September 23 where the winners will be announced.

The event was put on to fundraise to renovate the village cricket pavilion.

Debbie Foster, one of the organisers, said: "The public reaction has been lovely. I have met several people who were just passing through, but then parked up to look around.

"Another chap said he passes through Droxford on his way to work every day so brought his family over for a walk at the weekend and a closer look.

"The best thing about it is that it cheers everybody up. I live right in the centre of the village and it is lovely hearing the chuckles and seeing everyone smiling – even the motorists."
