A HAMPSHIRE NHS trust will be talking about its end of life care and plans to create a new hospice in Winchester at a meeting later this month.

The Hampshire Hospitals Trust will be giving a talk at the Winchester Guildhall on Tuesday November 28, where residents can hear more details about the plans to refurbish Burrell House, located at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH), into a 10-bed hospice.

Specialist doctors and members of the trust’s palliative care team will also be present and be available for questions about end-of-life care.

As previously reported, more than £2.5 million is needed to refurbish Burrell House to turn it into a hospice, which the trust hopes to raise through a fundraising campaign.

Burrell House is a Victorian house that has had several uses over the years including as a nurses’ quarters.

A trust spokesman confirmed to the Chronicle that they were unable to say at present how many jobs the hospice would create but that it would be run by Hampshire Hospitals and 30 per cent of ongoing costs would be from charitable funds.

This will be used for “additional staffing and services that the NHS cannot provide, complementary therapies for example, as well to maintain and improve the environment for patients”.

The free talk will start at 6.30pm, with refreshments being served at 6pm.
