WINCHESTER City Council held a free skateboard coaching event at Stanmore in the Easter Holidays for local children and young people.

The event was put together by the open spaces and sports teams with coaching undertaken by Sam Young from Team Rubicon.

St Luke Councillor Jamie Scott thanked city council officers for putting on the event at Somers Close Rec, he said: “The skateboard coaching for local kids was a fabulous idea and I couldn’t believe how good the young people were on their skateboards and scooters. I can’t count the amount of times my heart missed a beat watching the tricks the young people did.

Sarah Lawlor, a parent of one of the riders, Charlie Lawlor, said: “A brilliant day watching the children’s smiling faces as they were taught new tricks.”

Charlie Lawlor, who rides for Dominator Action Sports, said: “Keep trying and don’t give up, don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, just enjoy riding the skatepark and most important always wear a helmet”.

The council have run many coaching sessions around the district over the last few years.
