New hairdressing courses in Winchester
FOR students aiming to be a cut above the rest, new courses are coming to Winchester for trainee hairdressers.
A salon is being built in old classrooms at the Adult Continuing Education Centre in Stoney Lane, Weeke.
The venue, run by Peter Symonds College, already offers beauty courses, but now also hopes to train the top stylists of tomorrow.
Jane Hiscock, a hairdresser with 30 years' experience, will lead the courses, along with two tutors who are yet to be appointed.
The mother-of-two from Southampton said: "I can't tell you how excited I am. I'm so delighted that we'll be able to offer hairdressing courses as this is my skill area.
"We'll be offering a wide range of services to the public, and the salon will just be the making of the ACE Centre."
The centre aims to run two full-time hairdressing courses with space for 11 students each, costing £640 per year. Part-time courses are also planned, along with taster sessions for 14 to 16-year-olds.
The £50,000 scheme to create the salon began last Friday (July 11), and is due to finish in mid September.
Once completed, the salon - called Holistic Hair and Beauty - will be open to the public on Fridays.
Students will offer haircuts and beauty treatments at reduced prices once they are sufficiently trained. The first public sessions are expected in late October.
Call Mrs Hiscock on 01962 886166 for details about the courses, and the treatments available.
