Tiddlywinks is a big success
A PARENT and toddler group in Weeke plans to double its activities later this year due to its popularity.
Tiddlywinks, based at Weeke Community Centre in Taplings Road, now has 90 children on its books.
The group was re-launched last year, and the average number of families attending had risen steadily from 15 to 22 per session.
Tiddlywinks gives toddlers a chance to sing, play, and have a snack. It sessions are currently run every Thursday from 9.30 to 11.30am.
However, the group now plans to run activities on Tuesday mornings as well, starting in September.
Ali Ramsden and Bev Scholey, who both have four children, took up the reins at Tiddlywinks after North Winchester Baptist Church pulled out.
The Lanterns Centre in Bereweeke Road has since offered its backing. It is providing one member of staff to work with the group, and is covering the costs of hiring the community centre.
Thanks to the support from Lanterns, Mrs Ramsden said Tiddlywinks was growing in popularity.
She said: "We have increased our numbers like you would never imagine, moving from 15 families per week on average to 22, and we have had a total of 64 families register with us with a staggering 90 children. Thankfully for us, all the new members have not turned up at once!
"Due to this wonderful success we are now in a position to provide a second session each week for the families in our community."
