A HOUSING developer and a council have teamed up with a view to building a new park.

Persimmon Homes is looking to give a plot of land in Tidworth to the town council with the intention of it becoming a new play park.

Tidworth Town Council has applied for planning permission for the grassed area located at the bottom of Connolly Way, off Pennings Road, for the handing over of the land and the installation of play facilities with the aim to get the park open in 10 weeks if consent is granted.

Tidworth mayor and town councillor Mark Connolly said: “I am delighted that the planning application is now with Wiltshire Council. We think the scheme is really exciting and hope the children of the estate enjoy the play area for many years to come.

“This is the first of two play areas for the estate and like this one, we intend to consult residents again in a couple of months so that they get the play area they want and not what is imposed on them.”

The town council consulted residents in December on its plans and made a few changes to the designs to incorporate their wishes for the planning application now submitted.

Changes including adding a swing for disabled children and an extra piece of equipment for the toddler age group at the expense of the older children’s area.

The proposal includes traditional slides and swings along with more modern park play equipment.

The application for the play area is available to view and comment on during the public consultation stage which ends on Wednesday, 25 April.
