THE ARMY Basing Programme's construction sites scooped accolades at a national awards ceremony.

Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) has won a construction award for its delivery under the Army Basing Programme (ABP), including a Gold award for their Tidworth site.

A total of four ADCW projects won accolades at the 2018 Considerate Contractors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards in April.

The awards recognise the very best performing construction sites in the UK with the highest levels of consideration being shown towards the public, their workforce and the environment.

Paul Dempster, managing director of ADCW, said: “We’re extremely proud of our excellent record on health & safety, community engagement and sustainability and were delighted to receive these awards, which are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff across all our ABP projects. Creating a positive legacy for construction in the local area is a key priority for us, as we continue improving the defence landscape behind the wire and making soldiers’ lives better.”

The construction company is delivering new soldiers’ living and working accommodation at garrisons across Salisbury Plain Training Area and at Aldershot, to support the return of troops from Germany in 2019 and numerous unit relocations in the UK. The Tidworth ABP project scooped gold, while Larkhill, Bulford and Perham Down won bronze awards.

All ADCW’s ABP projects have achieved ‘exceptional’ CCS scores and ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ certificates. CCS monitors performance across five categories: Appearance, Community, Environment, Safety and the Workforce.

ADCW was commended by CCS for giving ‘an extremely positive impression of the contractor and the industry’, by seeking opportunities to engage with those affected by construction works wherever possible. The presentation of ABP sites was also praised, as was the company’s professionalism, commitment to safety and care of the environment.
