WHITCHURCH residents will get the chance to travel in style next month as the Cathedrals Express rolls into town.

The steam train, hauled by the B1 class locomotive Mayflower, is celebrating its 15th year and is marking the event with a commemorative trip to Canterbury.

The train will set off from Salisbury on Wednesday 8 April and is due to stop in Andover at 8.35am before stopping in Whitchurch for the very first time 10 minutes later.

Passengers will then step off at Canterbury West at approximately 1.30pm, giving passengers almost three hours to enjoy this historic city as well as visiting England’s oldest cathedral.

The trip is being organised by Steam Dreams and their chairman, Marcus Robertson, said: “Fiften years ago, The Cathedrals Express set out from London on its first ever trip to Canterbury and a month later we made our second trip to Salisbury.

“To mark this special milestone, we are offering passengers the chance to travel between these two fabulous Cathedral cities.

“As well as returning to Andover, we are delighted to be visiting Whitchurch for the first time and hope that locals will join us for what promises to be a very special occasion.”

Tickets for the trip are available in all four classes, ranging from £99 per person to the top class of Pullman Style Dining of £239 per person.

This ticket includes a twocourse champagne brunch on the outward journey and a five-course dinner on the return.
