A GROUP of 27 residents from the Whitchurch area have experienced how their twin town counterparts live during an annual exchange trip.

Members of the Testbourne Parishes Twinning Association visited the southwest of France last month where they stayed with families from their twin town of Neuvic-Sur-l’Isle.

The group, who celebrated the 35th annual trip between their communities last year, took part in activities during their six-day visit including a trip to an iconic windmill, a picnic at a chateau and a guided tour of a vinyard.

They also visited a trout farm before ending their trip with a gala meal attended by the Mayor of Neuvic, François Rousel.

Chairman of the Testbourne Parishes Twinning Association, Colin Follett, was on the trip.

He said: “On our arrival in France we were greeted by searing heat only for the temperature to drop.

“What stayed constant however was the warmth of hospitality of our French hosts, which is unparalleled in its generosity.

“This year’s exchange was one of the most memorable but a highlight was the visit to the Iris Windmill.

“Standing on a little hill, its gardens are full of on an exotic array of more than 350 varieties of iris, which were full bloom when we visited.”

The group will now welcome families from Neuvic to England next year and are looking for new members to help host individuals, couples or families during their trip.

Mr Follett added: “Many members have established a lasting relationship with people in this lovely area of France. If you feel you want to share in this Anglo- French cultural exchange we welcome you.”
