ORGANISERS of the much anticipated Worldwide Whitchurch Weekend have officially announced this year’s itinerary.

The three-day event, which will take place from July 17-19, will see Whitchurch communities from across the world come together for three days of sporting and social events.

13 towns and villages by the name of Whitchurch have already agreed to come, with representatives from across England and Wales gathering in Hampshire.

Representatives from Canada will also be present via a digitally recorded message and their flag will be displayed above the town hall.

The event starts with a vintage car parade on the Friday night which will be followed by a series of music events across different pubs in the town.

Day two will see various different events including a birds of prey display and a hot air balloon launch while Whitchurch Sports Club and Testbourne Sports Fields will play host to a series of sports including tennis and archery.

This will run alongside other activities such as a guided walk of the four mills and a bake off competition, in which the entries will be judged before being put on sale.

Saturday evening will see the main event ‘A Midsummer’s Night Garden’ Gala which will have cocktails on arrival as well as a DJ and live music throughout the night.

Sunday will see the Whitchurch Cricket World Cup alongside various art exhibitions and gardens which will also be open throughout the weekend.

Sunday evening will then see Whitchurch Mayor Barry Jackman make a closing speech before the event finishes with a summer picnic.

Chairman of the Worldwide Whitchurch Weekend organising committee, Paul Driver, said: “It’s a really exciting lineup with a lot to look forward to.

We’ve never had anything like this event since the Tour de France came to Whitchurch so it’s going to be huge.”

The full programme for the event is now available to buy from outlets in the town and for tickets for the Gala Event, priced at £20, visit: worldwidewhitchurchweekend.co.uk.

Tickets for the gala must be bought before the event and are also available from Longmeadow Sports and Social Club and Kingsley Financial.
