MORE than 1,500 rubber ducks raced their way down a stretch of the River Test over the Bank Holiday weekend in a popular annual event.

The bath time play toys took to the Flashetts for this year’s Great Overton Duck Race on Bank Holiday Monday as hundreds of people came out to enjoy the event.

With permission from Portals Properties, racers chose their ducks, of varying sizes, to compete in one of the eight races held at the event this year.

The finalists from each race were then entered into the Grand Final for the chance to win a cash prize.

Mark Winter, one of the organisers, said: “It was an amazing and brilliant day.

“We had eight races and over 1,500 ducks - that’s really good.

“Families were there and there loads of family activities to do, face painting, sand art, kids games and beers and barbecue.

“They were there right to the end.

“It was brilliant because we have a fantastic team of volunteers.”

Mr Winter added the organising team hopes to have raised around £2,000 for St Mary’s Hall by staging the event.
