Arts award to Southampton School

A SOUTHAMPTON school’s dedication to the arts has been recognised with a prestigious award from the Arts Council England.

Upper Shirley High School has received an Artsmark Gold, reflecting its commitment to encouraging its students to explore art, music and drama.

The school achieved the recognition following an inspection in which it had to show its passion for art is reflected in teaching time across the curriculum.

“We have to show art is embedded across our teaching in other subjects as well,” said vice-principal Martin Brown.

“Our students and staff are proud that they have received yet another award in recognition of their hard work.”

Don't let the Oasis happy clappies get near it, they will have it shut down within a year.

Saints Mike......I guess a positive comment of congratulations to Upper Shirley High is beyond you. Why not give a "happy clap" instead of commenting on a completely different place. Bringing criticism about something that is unrelated doesnt seem to be a community way of thinking, neither is it helpful. Try looking and congratulating. Well done Upper Shirley High.

the proof of the pudding will be if the exam results improve. As Bellemoor the school was dire and all the locals in their big detached houses sent their kids elsewhere. If they can get locals to send their kids there the school will have improved. If not it's typical spin from Ellins.

Please SouthamptonMan, get a grip, it was a lighthearted comment. Sure it's great that Upper Shirley High deserves high praise for this achievement, Would you let the Oasis take over your children's school?

Saints Mike, I am just puzzled as to why you see the need to involve any other school in your post when it was only to do with Upper Shirley. Its beyond comprehension.
