BOYS from 3rd Salisbury Sea Scouts have been mucking in to help their local community.
After visiting the city’s food bank and seeing that so many people in their district needed help with everyday essentials, the youngsters decided they wanted to make a difference.
As part of their Global Challenge badge they sorted through the harvest festival donations gathered by local churches and given to the Trussell Trust to be packed into food parcels, helping 3000 people across South Wiltshire.
Their leader, Barbara White, said: “They jumped in with both feet and enjoyed sorting through the various tins and packets knowing what they were doing would brighten someone’s day.”
Chris Mould, director of the food bank said: “The Sea Scouts help came at just the right time. Harvest is the busiest time of year for the food bank so we were thrilled when the scouts asked to come and help sort the mountain of food we have been given.”
The hard work and dedication of the boys contributes towards the Scout Promise Challenge and brings them one step closer to attaining the Chief Scouts Badge, as well as helping their local community.
