Good day at Brands for racer Dawn

Dawn Boyd in her Golf GTi Dawn Boyd in her Golf GTi

Andover girl racer Dawn Boyd was in action at Brands Hatch recently for the latest rounds of the Golf Gti championship. It was a tribute to the success of the championship that a packed grid of 33 Mk2 Gtis turned out, and they were greeted by beautiful sunshine all day. Dawn was in confident mood, on a track she enjoyed, and it showed as she was making good times in qualifying. Out of the three girls in the championship she was the fastest, creating paddock jokes that she was the ‘Pole Girl’. Qualifying ninth in class but with a ten cars of both classes behind her, it was an encouraging ego boost.

Only one race was scheduled for this round which was disappointing but it meant there was only one chance to get it right. It wasn’t the best start for Dawn but all the cars successfully negotiated the infamous Paddock Hill bend. Dawn was pushing for places all throughout the race and continuously made passes within the pack only to be overtaken again by some drivers who were either braver or just plain reckless. It was all clean fun racing and Dawn finished eighth in class but also kept 11 cars behind her. Dawn is still searching for corporate sponsorship and urges any local company to get involved in this much cheaper alternative for advertising, see www.dawnontrack.co.uk for further details.
