A MAJOR fireworks display is still set to take place despite the Rotary Club of Andover’s agonising decision to pull out of the 2009 event.
The Rotary Club has been Andover Round Table’s partner in the running of the successful Andover Fireworks Display for the past nine years.
Rotary’s decision was taken as a result of concerns about the manpower and financial commitments that have been involved in running the event at Thruxton.
Rotary president David Moulton said the decision was taken with extreme reluctance, but a number of factors had culminated in the decision.
However, Andover Round Table chairman Nigel Baxendale has confirmed that his club has every intention of running the event for 2009, although some changes may be required. Plans are already afoot for the 2009 event which Nigel Baxendale is confident will be a memorable one.
“The team at Andover Round Table have some very exciting ideas for this year and, at this stage, it looks very promising for a fantastic event, although it is too soon to confirm the details.”
Nigel also offered his thanks to the Rotary Club for their support in running the event since it moved to Thruxton Race Circuit in 2000.
“Without our Rotarian friends it would not have been possible to put on the fantastic shows that we have enjoyed at Thruxton and to raise tens of thousands of pounds for local good causes.
“We have made great friendships during this relationship and these will of course continue. Rotary have done some great work in the Andover community and I know they will continue to make a huge difference to many people’s lives.”
Nigel has committed to keeping the Andover community informed on progress with this year’s plans and is keen to share the exciting news with Andover Advertiser readers in due course.
