Energy saving double

A SOLAR panel and a wind turbine have been donated to Overton C E Primary School after the village's residents won an energy-saving competition.
The Switch on to Climate Change competition, run by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, encouraged people to claim free energy-saving light bulbs. Overton residents claimed more than any other ward in the borough, winning a £1,000 prize, which had to be spent on a green initiative.
Cllrs Ian Tilbury and Paula Baker decided that the grant would be best spent on the solar panel and wind turbine, which will be erected at the school, as well as several books that will be donated to the school's library as well as the main Overton library.
The turbine and the solar panel will connect to a meter that shows the pupils exactly how much power they generate over a period of time.
Cllr Tilbury said: "Obviously the people who claimed the bulbs are saving power, and now we've been able to buy the equipment so it's a win-win situation really."
