Xxxx In the Test Valley Billiard League the Fred Betteridge Pairs semi-finals took place at Chilbolton and Mottisfont this week. With a home advantage, reigning champions Korbin Lowe and Jay Ponting continued with their winning ways brushing aside Richard Stevens and Kevin Robson to put themselves into the final. The new pairing of Nigel Horne and Joe Stockwell put in a fine display to edge past the Mottisfont pairing of Graham Osman and Peter Holmes to feature in their first final together on March 19 at Mottisfont Social Club.

Andover Wolves remain bottom of the table after the Cannons completed the double over them this season winning 300-230, lifting them above Leckford, who struggled at home to Mottisfont. Only Martin Appleby managed a win for the home side, knocking in a 20 break on the way to beating out of form Peter Holmes.

This was a disappointing result for the Fonts as they were looking to catch up the nine points deficit with the league leaders, Chilbolton Cuemen. Luckily for them the Cuemens’ Jay Ponting also lost heavily to the Plains’ Joe Stockwell but the surprise result of the week came from the game between Alan Batchelor and Korbin Lowe, as Korbin scored at every visit to the table to win 100-6 against one of the better players in the league. With only two league games left the title is a two horse race between Mottisfont and the Cuemen, who will face each other in the final league match of the season on March 12.
