Andover’s girl racer Dawn Boyd was back on track at Rockingham with her FINSPORT teams Fiesta ST, in the first rounds of the 2013 Vortex Dunlop Fiesta Championship. It is Dawn’s second year in the car and there is still much to learn.

There had been some last minute regulation changes for the new season, but the important car upgrades had not arrived by race day. Qualifying was interrupted by a crash which left only a ten minute shoot out for grid places and Boyd didn’t have much luck gaining a clear fast lap and ended up near the back of the grid.

Race one saw Boyd always playing catch up, over-driving the car causing tyres to over heat and lose grip and she slid her way to the end.

In race two Boyd had a better start and at the first tight corner there was a pile up involving eight cars but she found her way through and up to 12th place. Boyd drove well, but the lack of crucial car upgrades showed through the long race, as she was steadily overtaken but had a good battle with a stream of four cars for most of the race, finishing ahead of some of her main rivals.

The next round is this weekend at Snetterton with the upgrades in place for rounds three and four of the championship.

Boyd is still searching for a corporate sponsor. Contact her on www.dawnontrack.co.uk.
