Great Britain hockey Olympic bronze medallist Beth Storry visited Andover Hockey Club to give a training session to two of the club’s goalkeepers, Hazel Stacey and Heather Grimsey. This was a deal struck up between the three of them over Twitter in exchange for a reindeer onesie. Beth was assisted by her partner Chantal de Bruijn, who played international hockey for the Netherlands until 2006 and won a silver Olympic medal with the team in Athens.
Beth and Chantal delivered a fantastic session focusing on weaknesses and Beth shared her wealth of knowledge throughout the session and both Hazel and Heather learnt much to take with them into next season.
The session was open to all and there was a small crowd not wanting to miss anopportunity of meeting a GB hockey star. Beth had brought her 2012 medal and both she and Chantal happily answered questions on international hockey.
Beth is now living in the Netherlands and to show their appreciation the club has donated some money to MacMillan Cancer Support which is the charity that Beth is raising money for by cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats in September.
