Andover Town 3 Havant and Waterlooville Academy 2.

Andover Town boss Neil Benson once again fielded 22 players in the final warm up game before the League Cup opener at New Milton tomorrow and they came away with a 3-2 win over a Havant and Waterlooville Academy.

The visitors had no answer to the sheer power of Town striker Michael Dixon in the first half as he brushed aside a challenge out on the left and squared for Cameron Hough to side foot a 15 minute opener.

Town gave a debut to young midfielder Matt Grey who looked class alongside Hough and three minutes later Hough and Grey combined with Dixon who hammered in the second with a clinical finish and a rout looked on the cards.

Havant regrouped and Josh Benfield tested Jake Wellesley-Davies but Town were eager for more and Chris Williams’ superb cross field pass found Dixon who fed Ope Aromona who brought a fine save out of Joe Hunt.

After the break Dixon thrashed in his second and Town’s third off the underside of the bar which was his last meaningful action as Benson made wholesale changes on the hour. Before then Havant pulled a goal back through Stan Edwards and when Cass Bartlett-Scott drove home an unstoppable 25 yarder on 65 minutes Havant were right back into it.

Tom Richards, Tyler Bettteridge, Tom Riddell and Claudio Herbert all went close before the end but Town sent their increasing band of supporters home happy.
