Town off to a winning start at Winklebury
Andover Town 3 Hythe and Dibden 0.
Andover Town got their league campaign off to a successful start on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win over Hythe and Dibden at the Hants FA ground at Winklebury.
In front of a number of former Lions supporters an Oliver Yates free-kick gave Town the lead and it was soon 2-0 as Lloyd Foot converted a spot-kick after skipper Lewis Benson was fouled.
Michael Dixon made it 3-0 before the break after man of the match Yates, who came through the Sparsholt Academy programme, delivered a superb cross from the left for his glancing header.
But Town took their foot off the pedal in the second half and after a number of chances came and went were forced to settle for the 3-0 win.
The score could have been more emphatic but despite some excellent build up play on a very difficult pitch Town were unable to take their chances with Dixon, Benson, Claudio Herbert and sub Tom Richards all guilty of misses.
Seven of the starting 11 have been through the Sparsholt programme which is encouraging for the future.
Michael Weatherall, Joe Rees-Long, Ope Aromona, Ryan Inskip, Lloyd Foot, Lewis Benson, Claudio Herbert, Jordan O’Donnell, Michael Dixon, Tyler Betteridge, Oliver Yates. Subs: Cam Hough, Tom Richards, Tom Riddell.
