Three goals in ten minutes stun Sparsholt Saints
Basingstoke Town Youth 3 Sparsholt Soton 3.
Sparsholt Saints side were left shaking their collective heads as having outplayed Basingstoke Town in the first half of their opening Conference Youth League match at the Camrose they then conceded three goals in ten minutes to go away with a draw.
It was a remarkable turn around after the college dominated the opening 20 minutes and went ahead through a fine finish from Ed Chappe who lobbed Tom Wright’s through pass over Keiron Greene.
David Jerrard then put Oli Bailey in and his finish had the same outcome but was ruled out by a linesman’s flag for offside.
Sparsholt played in bursts without really finding any flowing movement yet Charlie Gunson and Bailey both brought fine saves from the busy Greene before the break.
However in injury time Callum Cuniffe-Pilley’s perfectly weighted cross found Wright 12 yards out and he picked his spot to nod home the second.
A limping Chappe made way for Josh Bertie at the break and within five minutes it was 3-0 as Gerrard slipped a pass through to Bailey and his confident finish should have put paid to ‘Stoke.
Instead the home side began to find space and with burly centre back Jack O’Grady causing problems, Jefferson de Carvalho pulled one back with the help of a defensive deflection and another error let in Joel Field and he made it 3-2.
A minute later O’Grady was up field again and a long free-kick caused chaos and he backheaded it over Mark Childs for a remarkable equaliser.
Gunson, Gerrard and Wright all missed chances to wrap the game up but in the end the points were shared but the home side took the plaudits.
Next Wednesday the side entertain Bashley at Sparsholt College, kick-off 2pm.
