Chippenham comeback just thwarted
2:20pm Tuesday 8th October 2013 in Sport
Ludgershall Sports 3 Chippenham Youth 2.
Castle sponsored Ludgershall Sports entertained a Chippenham side who were clearly more dangerous than their league position suggests.
Ludgershall included Danny King in a very strong squad, and he and Mike Sadler caused plenty of problems down the left.
Steve Witt opened the scoring with a header from a telling move down the left between Sadler and King.
King then changed from provider to goalscorer to make it 2-0. A defensive mistake enabled the away side to get back into the game but five minutes before half-time the two goal lead was restored through a thunderous half volley from outside of the box by David King.
A missed penalty and two golden chances were spurned by the home team towards the end if the half.
The second half was very poor from a home perspective and pressure from Chippenham eventually brought their second goal. This led to a very panicky last ten minutes, in which Ludgershall were fortunate to keep their lead and take all three points.
Manager Paul Georgesaid after the game: “All things considered this game should have been over at half-time.
‘We missed a host of chances to finish it and when they scored their second I knew we would be put under a lot if pressure.
‘Credit to our boys though for holding on to a valuable win, and one which has decreased the gap at the top. ‘Having Danny in the side was a big bonus and his quality was evident from the start and we must now look ahead to the county cup next Saturday.
