Town youngsters hit New College for five
Andover Town U18 5 New College Swindon 0.
Ron Bertie’s young Andover Town side cemented their spot at the top of the SW Counties League with another stunning display of finishing to beat New College Swindon 5-0 at Sparsholt on Saturday morning.
In a game which was never in any doubt despite New College showing they too could play when they were given the chance, Town took a little while to settle and the foul count was high which prevented the game from flowing. Charlie Gunson’s cross was met by Hillary Ndagurwa who was kept out by a stunning save from Ben Farrow then at the other end Mark Childs had to be at his best to keep out an effort from Harry Myles.
Once Town got into their rhythm the goals came and just past the half hour a fine move was ended by Ndagurwa setting up David Jerrard whose finish was precise inside the near post. Ten minutes later the all action Ed Chappe set Jerrard up for number two and soon after the break the game was effectively over as Chappe smashed in a 25 yarder from a quickly taken free-kick.
Gunson and Chappe then combined for Callum Cuniffe-Pilley to strike a glorious fourth and the Nap hand was complete when Chappe fed substitute Oli Bailey and his shot beat Farrow and was helped in on the line by fellow sub Tommy Wright.
Cuniffe-Pilley struck the bar late on as did third sub Luke Greenbank but it mattered little as Town continue to score goals at will in their debut season in the league.
Next Saturday the boys are once again at home, this time to Poole Town in the League Cup, kick-off 10.30am at Sparsholt College.
