Stockbridge given two weeks by Wessex League

Wessex League Division One Stockbridge have been given permission to postpone their next two matches while interim manager Barry Andrews continues to gather together a squad to carry on the season which began well but has quickly collapsed, leaving the proud old club floundering – just as the new build takes shape at the Rec.

When the managerial team of Terry Chapman and James Banks resigned last month, almost all the playing staff left with them, most joining other clubs, and the Robins were forced to postpone their matches.

Club chairman Paul Barker said: “All at Stockbridge are working hard to rectify this situation but as I am sure you can imagine trying to raise a new squad at this time of the season is not an easy task. Barry Andrews has stepped in as an interim manager and has been working tirelessly but the reality is that we still need to sign at least another six players.

Most recent signings have been long serving Romsey Town player, Ben Andrews and Tim Brown is also a new face at the Division One side this week, while Andrew Burgess re-joins for another season. David Chambers is a new name at the club, while Luke Hoare re-joins, having previously played in the 2009-2010 season.

Leaguev secretary John Gorman said of the club’s situation: “The league has agreed to give Stockbridge two weeks to sort the situation and as a result the match this Saturday with New Street will not now go ahead. We expect Stockbridge to be up and running again on Saturday December 14 when they are due to play New Milton Town.

On a brighter note work on the new changing rooms is progressing at a rapid rate and the roof trusses are now fitted and the work is well on target for completion by the end of February.

Barker added: “Thank you to everyone who has already been in contact and offered support and to the officials of the Sydenham’s Wessex League who are working to help us through this difficult period.

Meanwhile Barrry Andrews is taking a training session where all are welcome on Wednesday evening at Charlton Leisure Centre from 6.30 to 7.30pm.
