Andover 60 Romsey 0.

On a bleak dark day Oakwood sponsored Andover turned in a workmanlike if lacklustre performance that was still far too much for visiting neighbours Romsey to cope with.

They dominated every part of the game from start to finish scoring ten tries and indeed only their own wastefulness prevented Romsey following in the footsteps of Alton several weeks ago.

The scrum in particular was so dominant that even going up the slope they won almost every ball with Sam Earle and Alex Hibdidge giving Tom Waite a platform he could normally only dream of.

With so much possession Andover tore into Romsey and predictably took the lead after ten minutes as skipper Marc Wilding finished a push over try.

Five minutes later Sam Froggett was put clear to score by a quick Andy Franklin tap penalty and it took another ten minutes before Craig Snook finally extended the lead with a try converted by Elliott Copestake.

Paul Tuinsakea set up that chance and just two minutes later he was at it again this time putting Dave Catt clear to score with Copestake again adding the extras.

Andover then again had a frustrating spell where they missed several guilt edged chances and Waite had an obvious try disallowed, before on the stroke of half-time Froggett settled the contest with his second score.

The second half saw the return of club skipper Alex Morgan and Aaron Hatcher to action and after just a minute good work from the impressive Matt Moore led to a cross kick neatly finished by Copestake.

Martin Smiles took over kicking duties and added the conversion.

It took another 15 minutes for Andover to cross again as Romsey battled hard but they had no answer as Wilding set Hibdidge free to crash over with Smiles again on target.

Dean Kirk then grabbed a neat try and moments later Jack Stott danced his way over from 30 metres out for a trademark score converted by Smiles.

With a minute to go Andover finally got the points their dominance deserved as Wilding was twice involved in a flowing move that saw Copestake grab a well deserved second score.

In the end Andover ran out very comfortable winners but coach Andy Waite was not completely happy: "We generally played quite well today but we definitely lacked a bit of focus and were a bit casual in attack.

'We had a few changes but that shouldn’t matter and I would be disappointed if my under 12’s had committed some of our errors.

'We have a fantastic coaching team in Sam Froggett and Marc Wilding here and it is important that players listen and learn from them especially in games where it is easy to get carried away, as bad habits can quickly get embedded that better teams will exploit."

On Saturday Andover host a dangerous Farnborough team in their last league game of the year knowing that they will need to be more accurate.
