Surprise defeat for Whitchurch squash

Whitchurch visited Seacourt on Hayling Island with a typical December poor availability which stretching captain Dave Adamson's team selection.

Debutant Mike Strong at five surprisingly managed a solid 3-1 win while Alex Melkonian at two struggled losing the first game before gamely fighting back to somehow win 3-1.

Nathan Routley at three faced a mobile and improving player and did well to win a game losing 3-1.

Captain Dave Adamson at four looked a certainty but casually lost the first game.

He powered his way to lead 2-1 with the match at his mercy, sadly his lack of fitness told as he tired to lose the fourth before capitulating totally in the last for a 3-2 defeat.

The match now depended on the usually reliable Brett Farmer at one who faced a rotund but powerful player. The walls become wet at Seacourt and the ball slides which was Brett's excuse for losing the first game 9-0.

He managed a fight back in the second from 8-0 down to level 8-8 but then lost 10-8. Incredibly in the third Brett fought back from 0-7 down to win 9-7 and the won the fourth easily.

The team relaxed as Brett led 4-0 in the last only to lose concentration and the match.

This is the second match which has been lost from a clear winning position and concentration will need to be maintained better in the second half of the season.

The Vets had a poor trip to Portsmouth with Richard Baker losing 3-0 to an opponent he normally beats.

Erdogan Ince unusually lost 3-0, with only captain Rob King salvaging any pride with a gutsy 3-2 win.
