A clash of the leading teams in Division One saw Pumas beat Hanson A 6-4, despite Hanson’s Josh White winning all his three sets.

However, Josh was pushed hard to overcome Shaun Carver whom he beat 12-10, 11-8, 8-11, 4-11, 11-13.

Shaun won two as did Richard Fettes while Ray Carver hung on to defeat Steve Rollason 11-9 in the fifth game. Pumas also had to engineer a comeback in the doubles, going down by two games before recovering to take the last three 11-6 each time. Figheldean took on a two man Tigers’ team and surprisingly lost 3-7. Clive Hacker lost to Andy Snellgrove in five sets and also went down in the fourth set 13-15 to Jerry Holt so Andy and Jerry completed the match with three apiece as well as the doubles.

In the lower half of the table Hanson D lost to Hanson Lions 2-8. Chris Farrar (Hanson D) just beat Matt Carter in five sets but Brian Fox came in as a late replacement for Lions and won all his three.

Zac Hine (Lions) won his three but struggled against Chris and Mike Cartridge before winning both in five sets.

Wallop Wanderers, who are also in the lower half of the table, went down 1-9 to Hanson C. Andy Barnes (Hanson C) won three as did Jamie Smith but only after he defeated the consistent Rob Macey (Wanderers) in five sets. Rob Macey again proved to be the nemesis of Nick George, who he beat easily in three sets.

In Division Two, Hanson F were no match for 3D’s, losing 1-9 with three each for Marie and Brian Dyke ensuring 3D’s win, ably supported by two for Jessie Yi who was playing her first league match of the season.

Pete Chatterway won the solitary set for Hanson F by defeating Jessie in the first match. Luke Chatterway continues to improve, being unlucky to lose to both Marie and Brian in five sets and also to Jessie, 11-6, 12-10, 12-14, 7-11, 14-16.

Enham kept up their challenge at the top of the division by beating Hanson E 8-2.

Andy Farmer got his usual three with two each for Pete Farmer and Patrick Baker. Karl Jones won the two sets for Hanson E and Jonny Macey might have managed a third but unluckily lost to Patrick 16-14, 15-13, 14-12.

A late first round match in the Advertiser Cup saw Hanson E go out, losing 2-7 to Hanson C. Gerry Vaughan and Jamie Smith picked up three apiece, while Nick George lost to both Emma Shepherd and Rhys Jones.
