The Andover Pool League headed back to the baize after the Christmas break, with plenty to play for in all five divisions.

There were just four teams left with their unbeaten records, as the festive hangovers of some continued into the new year.

Sean Curtis’ Arms A continued their poor form as his vastly experienced and talented side are struggling to click.

They faced the Arms B looking to get back in to the title race, but despite getting on the tables early they slumped to another defeat.

Paul Hughes’ side fought back from losing the first frame to win 7-2 with a superb clearance from the in form John Francis setting them on the road to victory.

It was another good night for the Demons as they came away from the Anton with a superb 8-1 win. The QCC’s won 7-2 at Hurstbourne to continue their revival and the Arm’s FD got off the mark at the expense of Merlin Misfits, who still have yet to win.

But the result of the week came from Queen Charlotte, completing a clean sweep for their Premier League sides. Jez Taylor was in superb form as they thumped unbeaten Royal Oak 9-0, with three consecutive ‘seven balls and Lee George on the receiving end of two clearances after breaking both times.

Division One saw the Fatties return to the top with a close 5-4 win against the Folly. Clatford Arms Dealers lost their place at the top as they went down 7-2 to Dave Rees-Webbe’s Central.

Arms D and Arms and Legs faced off with the D coming out on top 5-4. Angels of Luck could have taken over top spot but were outclassed as Shire Sharp Shooters took every frame to run out 9-0 winners and move above them Central Mankinis saw their unbeaten run come to an end against a rejuvenated QC Beebies side. Greg Allen’s superb black set them on their way to a 6-3 victory.

Anton Decs took over top spot with a 6-3 win at Wooly B52’s while there were wins for both Merlin sides, as the Massive won 7-2 at home to Railway Club and the Masters won 5-4 at home to Battle Stations.

Wolversdene Warriors left it late as they took until nearly midnight to close out a 6-3 win at Plougher Rangers to go joint second.

The division also looks to have seen its first drop out as Globe Misfits were given the red line treatment, handing Wyke Down a default 9-0 win.

Eagle Leftovers went top with a game in hand over second placed Shire Sambuca Squad after a fine 7-2 win over the Wanderers, while the Sambuca Squad could only manage a 5-4 at the Swallow Smash Heads. Lamb Chops B and Hurstbourne B also kept up the pressure with the Chops winning 5-4 at home to Arms Snipers and Hurstbourne B winning 6-3 at home to Lamb Chops A.

In Division Five the Beavers’ run came to and end as they lost at home to Merlins and Muppets 6-3.

It wasn’t such a good night for the Minions as they slipped up at Slippery Strangers, 7-2. Chute Club went above the Beavers thanks to a 5-4 win at Station Phoenix and the leagues’ other match saw Play Station lose their unbeaten record as they went down 6-3 to the Merlin Mafia.
