Andover Lions have made two signings this week as they look to prepare for the final run in, in what is a vital season for the club in the Hampshire Premier League Division One.

Manager Ray Cozze has clinched the signature of central defender/midfielder Matt Scott who has left Wessex Premier side Winchester City while full back Dean Smith (pictured in yellow) has also moved from New Street.

The new players have been the only shining light on a grim couple of months where the club have been almost consistently frustrated by the bad weather which has played havoc with the fixture list.

To add to the frustration Lions’ North Hants Intermediate Cup clash with New Inn, which has been postponed a number of times, could not be played on Saturday as that club have another cup game which takes preference, leaving Lions with a blank day.

Secretary Chris Paris said: “We have now pencilled the game in for next Tuesday, weather permitting but could not get a game fixed up for Saturday.”

Lions have also lost three points as the University of Portsmouth side have pulled out of the league leaving just ten clubs left - another firm reason for the club to gain promotion this season.

The 4-3 victory early in the campaign is now wiped and the University’s record expunged.
