Andover GC played local rivals Tidworth in this year’s Daily Mail and despite their best efforts lost 3-2.

Warren Tarrant led the team out but lost 3 and 2, followed by Ian Barton who squared things up having an excellent win by 3 and 2.

Mark Gates got to the tenth hole before losing by 9 and 8, then Ronnie George had a very good 6 and 5 win.

Finally Simon Maskell lost 7 and 6.

Following an eventful journey Andover played at Southwood and captain Tom Smith and Mark Hearne had an uneventful first nine before their 20 handicapper opponent posted a birdie and a par to win 3 and 2.

Roger Stevens and Matt Aldridge also went down 3 and 2 while Mick Batchelor and Bill Groves were two up with three to play before losing their composure to finish one down.

Steve Whitlock and Pete Warmington had a torrid time and went down without winning a hole 6 and 5 and Alan King and Paul Warmington were nip and tuck all the way and went one down with three to play but gained the only points with a well-earned half.

Chris Davies and Mark Thomson lost 3 and 2, but after seven attempts visiting Southwood, Mark finally made it across the road to contest the last four holes.

l For the Andover GC Ladies’ first ' Major' of the year - the Valentine's Cup, the weather was blustery and with the course now in excellent condition some better than average golf was played.

After nine holes three ladies were all on the same score, but experience won through and Angela Rogers came out on top followed closely by Sharon Leckie.

The February Stableford was and Mandie Scott triumphed with 37 points from Nicky Rusher with 34.
