The semi-finals of the Andover Table Tennis League’s Weighill Trophy saw Figheldean cruise to a comfortable 5-2 win and 3D’s struggle to overcome Hanson B, 5-4.

Figheldean went into a 4- 0 lead before their opponents won a set due to an excellent three from Julie Dean, but she was made to work hard by Paul Raymond, eventually winning 21-19, 19-21, 21-18.

Graham Audin (Hanson B) was very unlucky to lose this match as he won his three, although only just against Marie Dyke 21-16, 11-21, 21-17. 3D’s pair of Marie and Brian Dyke both had a good night by winning two each, with Nicky Downs winning one. 3D’s of Division 2 could only draw 5-5 with Hanson E who played exceedingly well, with young Rhys Jones winning three. He had to work, only just beating Nicky Downs 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 12-14. Marie Dyke and Jessie Yi won two sets each for 3D’s, with Nicky Downs one. However, Jonny Macey (E) recorded a very good 6-11, 7- 11, 8-11 win over Nicky. The most exciting set was the doubles, when Nicky and Marie lost out to Karl and Rhys Jones, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 7-11, 10-12. Enham had a comfortable 7-3 win over Test Valley A with three for Andy Farmer and two from Pete Farmer seeing them home. Adam Lockington (A) played very well for the visitors winning two and taking Andy to four games. His team mate Oliver Raymond also did well to hold off Patrick Baker 20-18, 3-11, 11-2, 10-12, 9-11.

In Division 1 the usual two man Tigers team easily saw off Hanson D 7-3, with Malcolm Cummins and Andy Snellgrove winning three each. This takes Tigers to the top of the table for the first time this season and with one game still to play, look certain to retain the division one title.

Hanson Lions defeated a depleted Hanson D 7-3, with Zac Hine and a fit again Brian Fox, both winning three. Zac had to work hard though to beat Rhys Jones (who played up for this match), 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 10-12, 11-8.
