Whitchurch United 0 Fareham Town 4.

Jam Boys’ boss Jim Macey was once again forced to field a below strength side as at least six were unavailable due to various reasons, including leading scorer Luke Walker who has joined Combined Counties side Hartley Wintney.

Fareham looked busy early on and Keiron Lewis should have given his side the lead inside five minutes as the defence failed to clear a long throw but his shot was blocked and after Scott Hassell’s long range effort was gathered by Luke Douglas the momentum went in the game for a while following a long delay to repair a net.

Moments later the visitors were ahead as Ashley Tattersall’s mazy run was too much for Whitchurch and John Wilson rolled in the opener on 15 minutes.

On the half hour it was 2-0 as a long ball into the area was again not cleared and Wilson outjumped home keeper Alex Thompson to nod home.

In a rare attack Isaac Sedu headed wide after good work from Hassell then Nick Jupp’s header from Chris Smalley’s cross was straight at Douglas but they were sporadic efforts and front men Nic Turpin and Shane Lock were getting little service.

Early in the second half Matt Scott appeared to be bundled over in the box but Sedu picked up the loose ball and fed Lock but his shot was wide and when Hassell’s downward header bounced over the bar from the next attack there was no way back.

Fareham were enjoying themselves and Lee Tigwell curled a long free-kick past Thompson for the third and Sam Knight rolled in the fourth right on the whistle on a night to forget at Longmeadow.
