Otterbourne 1 Overton United 2.

A stunning volley from Alex Jupp ten minutes from time brought Overton a well deserved victory over Andover Open Cup Finalists Otterbourne on Monday and kept up their hopes of a fourth place finish as a long and generally successful season closes out.

Having suffered a home mauling at the hands of Baffins Milton Rovers two days earlier United could have been excused for going through the motions on a hot day but both teams had other ideas and with the benches taking an instant dislike to each other it made for a far from end of season occasion.

Otterbourne fielded Andover Town U18 Scott Munro and he was first to test Sean O’Brien when his header was just over from Jamie Nash’s cross then at the other end Myles Englefield was crowded out from a good position before Chris Lavisher was presented with the ball but when in on keeper Marc Cole but his finish was poor and the home side escaped.

Lavisher made amends two minutes from the break when his good work set up Jupp who gave Overton the lead.

Otterbourne should have levelled from the restart but ex-Stockbridge man Luke Pothecary volleyed over from close range.

With the verbals still flying in the technical areas Dan Houseman had a shot saved by Cole then the impressive Nash was only denied by a last ditch tackle from James McCallion as Otterbourne strove to get back on terms. O’Brien then again denied Nash before two of the three Jupp brothers, Alex and Nick linked up for the latter to hit the top of the bar on the hour.

Lavisher missed again but slightly against the run of play substitute Dave Reading equalised with shot which went in under O’Brien and it was game on once more.

The home team throught they had taken the lead when a long throw ended up in the net via O’Brien’s glove but it was ruled out for a foul and their frustration was compounded with ten minutes left as Alex Jupp latched on to corner some way out and crashed the winner past Cope
