The best of the Easter weather had been reserved for fun day golf at Tidworth as 16 teams of four took part in the Texas Scramble Fun Day, in which players could each only use a putter with four clubs of their choice.

Many drivers were discarded in favour of the versatility of three and four woods, as were sand wedges in the reasonable belief that with a team of four approach shots, any sand bunker should be avoided at least by one of them.

Each team also played one hole with club professional Terry Gosden and after the gross scores had been returned and the handicaps applied club captain Brian Hutchins (left) presented Dennis Waites, Keith Harley, Karen Sturgess and Al Paterson with their winner's prize.

Second were Paul Neave, Steve Adams, Jeremy Withers and Richard Jackson and third Charles Lyon-Dean, Crawford Stoddart, Tom Clerke and Maureen Evans.
