Southampton (Sparsholt) 3 Southampton (Bath) 4.

Saints Academy boss Jason Dodd watched on as the rival Elite squads clashed once again in the Conference Youth Alliance at the Portway Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bath boys easily disposed of their counterparts in the first game staged at Keynsham Town’s 4G pitch in Bristol and they completed the double despite a second half fight back.

In truth the Sparsholt side became jaded after adding the Midweek County Cup to their collection on Friday but looked to be on form at the start as Tommy Wright and Ed Chappe dissected the Bath defence for OIi Bailey to finish off a stunning move for the opener.

Bath hit back within five minutes as Callum Thompson tucked away a loose ball after Josh Helm had parried a Josh Williams free-kick and Matt Morris gave his side the lead from the penalty spot after Helm had been forced to foul Williams.

When Morris was again on target just past the half hour it looked curtains for the college side as they were creating little after what was a good start.

Minutes after the restart Morris completed his hat-trick with an audacious lob but Sparsholt found some rhythm and Chappe’s free-kick to the near post was glanced in by Michael Donovan to give them some hope.

Tommy Wright then set up Chappe to make it 4-3 but a series of yellow cards then disrupted the finale and Bath held on for a well-deserved victory.
