Two Andover Gym Club tumblers travelled to Portugal as part of the GB team competing in the 2014 European Championships.

The World and British tumbling champion Kristof Willerton almost did not go as he picked up a foot injury at the training camp the week before but despite not being able to prepare as he would have liked he qualified for the individual finals in sixth place, with team mate Greg Townley (Wakefield) in third.

In the finals Kristof worked through the pain to add the European title to his World and British crowns.

In the process he became the first gymnast to hold World and European crowns at the same time, and set a new difficulty record for a British tumbler.

To round of a perfect day Greg finished second and to further underline the strength of British tumbling on the world stage the woman’s title was won by Pinewood gymnast Lucie Colebeck and the senior woman’s team won the team title.

Jenna Barrett followed up the success of the seniors when her team won the junior team title, the fourth time in a row the GB team has won.

Jenna worked with consistency and style and in the team finals tumbled first, successfully performing her new skill, a double twisting double somersault and landing it well, giving a solid score and taking some of the pressure off her team mates.

GB team member Rachel Davies went on to become the junior European champion, with Jenna now ranked tenth in Europe.
