St Mary Bourne v Odiham and Greywell.

A new season for ‘Bourne with a new skipper and Steve Wood won the toss at home to Odiham last weekend, electing to bat first in the near perfect conditions.

An opening partnership of 26 gave rise to optimism but newly promoted Odiham’s disciplined bowling attack and tight fielding took advantage of the very rusty looking ‘Bourne batting line up. Poor shot selection and execution contributed to the hosts’ spectacular downfall as only four players managed double figures with Jack White (15) top scoring and James Swift contributing 14 coming in at number ten.

The total of 93 off 34 overs was underwhelming to say the least given the ideal conditions and ‘Bourne became more deflated as Odiham compiled an opening stand of 54 but a double breakthrough by Martin Clay (2-21) and Wood (2-14) suddenly reduced the visitors to 61-4 within the space of five overs. This was to be the final success though and despite a spirited effort in the field, the earlier batting debacle left them with too little to defend and Odiham got home with six wickets and 15 overs to spare.
