Andover Advertiser: Byron Haycock was man of the match against Fawley on Sunday Byron Haycock was man of the match against Fawley on Sunday

Andover v Fawley.

Andover Sunday XI produced another excellent team display to overcome Fawley in the first round of the Southern T20 cup at a packed London Road on Sunday.

On a baking hot afternoon, captain Mike Adams won the toss and elected to bat first on a nice looking Andover track.

Openers Glyn Treagus and David Taylor got off to a great start, striking the ball cleanly and Taylor was especially entertaining with two huge sixes in his 23 ball 36.

However, the star of the day was South African Byron Haycock with an explosive 75 off just 54 balls. The overseas run machine came to the crease after Treagus had mistimed a drive and been caught, and immediately took the game to the opposition.

He was devastating on anything full, smearing two straight sixes and seven fours.

When man of the match Haycock was caught on the boundary going for another big hit, the tail were left to wag, led by Robbie Hadfield.

The batsman-keeper nurdled the ball around and ran hard between the wickets, well supported by Harry Blackburn, to leave Andover on an above par 155-6 off 20 overs.

The Fawley reply never really got started as Andover continued their good bowling form from the day before.

The miserly Taylor and Adams opening bowling partnership produced another devastating spell with just 30 coming off their combined eight overs, reaping three wickets.

This was well backed up by in-form Luke Graham with an impressive 1-19 off four and the wily Treagus, spinning out two wickets.

With 60 runs still required and only three overs left, the game was effectively over. However, some powerful hitting from Tuliff-Smith at the death got Fawley closer to the total but without ever really threatening.

The away team closed on 112-7 off their 20 overs, falling short of Verve Accounting sponsored Andover’s total.
