Misfiring 'Bourne go down at Ashford Hill

Andover Advertiser: Misfiring 'Bourne go down at Ashford Hill Misfiring 'Bourne go down at Ashford Hill

Ashford Hill v St Mary Bourne.

Bourne’s misfiring batting lineup had another poor day as they were asked bat first on a weather ravaged track.

A rather fortuitous opening stand of 27 between Jack White (15) and Ian Hares (10) proved to be about as good as it got as Bourne failed to cope with the uneven bounce and extravagant lateral movement exerted by the home attack.

Their 42-2 became 72 all out within 15 overs as home skipper Mark Williamson made full use of the conditions to claim a career best 7-18 including a hat-trick.

Andy Stevens was the only batsman with sufficient patience and technique to cope with the conditions and top scored for the beleaguered Bourne outfit with 17 not out.

About 50 short of a competitive total but believing that they could claim a victory, Bourne had Ashford Hill wobbling at 19-3 as skipper Chris Randall (1-13) and Martin Clay (2-18) made early inroads.

This proved to be a false dawn though as Bourne’s attack failed to maintain the intensity, providing sufficient loose balls for the hosts to coast home by seven wickets.
