Peter Whent of Andover Triathlon Club recently raced in the Outlaw Half placing third in his age group.

This race, held at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont near Nottingham, is a half Ironman distance race and consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56-mile bike leg and concludes with a half marathon run, all against a running clock with an 8.30 hours time limit.

It was a beautiful day and conditions were near perfect and Peter had an uneventful swim exiting in 37 minutes and heading out onto the bike course.

The course was fairly flat and took competitors through the surrounding villages where much of the local population turned out to support.

Peter completed the bike leg in a competitive 2hr and 55min, an average speed of 19.6mph, which is a new best for him.

Once on the run Peter felt good and was able to complete the half marathon in 1.53hrs for an overall finish time of 5.32hrs, winning third place in his age group.

Peter commented: “This was a very well organised race on a really quick course. I was delighted with my finish time and my place.

‘I would thoroughly recommend anyone to do this race.”
