Excellent weather, course conditions, hospitality and the best turn-out for years made the 2014 Andover Golfing Society charity meeting at Test Valley GC a most memorable and successful event.

Twenty one teams competed for the prestigious AGS Charity Shield presented by Langdowns DFK in warm sunshine and later a packed clubhouse viewed a moving video and presentation by Paul Kwatia, regional fundraising manager of the society’s chosen beneficiary, 'Young Epilepsy'.

Donations to the raffle and auction included Wimbledon tickets, two holiday apartment breaks, a remote golf trolley, smart phone, and many other high quality golf items.

Guest auctioneer Peter Corbett extracted much-needed funds from a well-fed and watered audience and in addition, Barclays Bank generously donated a further £1,000, enabling the total sums raised to reach a fantastic £7,000.

The winners were PMI Advisers (Brian Mellor, Chris Moore, Steve Moore and Gordon Brockman)with 120 points.

Second were the Transplus team of Roger Smith, John Smith, Vinny Hughes and John Lunn) on 118 pts.

Third were Bridget's Birdies, who were (Bridget Quilliam, Elaine Price, Nicky Rusher and Gill Frendo) on 117.

Best par threes was Paul Croombes (on countback) Nearest the pin on hole five was John Saye, hole nine Bob Cradduck, hole 13 John Saye, hole 16 Bob Law hole 15, nearest in two - John Smith.

Longest ladies’ drive on ten was Jill Frendo and longest drive for men on 18 was Nigel Gough Straightest drive on four was Hugh Reid.

The next meeting is this Wednesday at Salisbury and South Wilts GC.

There will be a nine-hole competition in the morning, followed in the afternoon by the usual full round competing for the AGS Claret Jug.
