Andover braved the wet conditions to come out on top against bottom of the table Hursley Park.

The newly-promoted visitors have had a tough start to the season and unsurprisingly, when they won the toss they elected to field first hoping to make the most of the bowler friendly conditions.

However, opening duo Glyn Treagus and Dave Taylor racked up another opening stand of 100 with Taylor leading the way, blazing 61, including nine fours and a six while Treagus played a supporting role.

Taylor was first to go when the introduction of spin saw a dramatic turn of events in the innings that was cruising towards a huge total.

Byron Haycock was next to follow and when Treagus fell to a catch in the deep, the innings folded like a pack of cards on a pitch which saw eight of the ten wickets fall to off spin.

The home side posted a low, but competitive, 159 all out and knew they had something to defend, especially with dark clouds looming.

The Hursley response started in disastrous fashion with a run out on the first ball and a fired up skipper, Mike Adams, steamed in from the pavilion end to bowl a magnificent spell of 3-25 off his ten overs.

This combined with another run out, this time a great individual effort from Danny Foy, effectively ended the visitor's chances of getting close to the total.

Spin was in full flow and the Hursley batsmen struggled against the turning ball.

Foy and Treagus went for a combined 26 from 12 overs, demonstrating how difficult it was to get the spinners away.

When the heavens opened, Hursley were placed on a miserly 67-5 off 27 overs, some distance short of the required rate and with no chance of getting back out to finish the game, Andover were granted victory by virtue of a higher run rate.
