Thruxton v Wilton.

Thruxton managed to beat the weather with a good all round performance to defeat Wilton.

Wilton batted and got off to a steady start scoring 24 off the first six overs before the fiery Adam Mills struck in the seventh over stand- in wicketkeeper Ben Simpson taking a fine catch.

Mills struck again in his next over taking two wickets in two balls reducing Wilton to 34-3 but they steadied the ship with a 53 run partnership before Sean Yates bowled Powell for a battling 29.

Hillier threatened to pepper the short boundaries but Yates put a stop to that when Sam Newton took a great catch off his bowling. This signalled a purple patch for Yates as he took another two wickets in that over to reduce Wilton to 102-7 after 25 overs. Mills returned to take two more wickets, Simpson taking his third catch which left Wilton teetering on 113-9, however a last wicket stand of 34 frustrated Thruxton for 11 overs until the returning Johnny Darling had Sethu caught by Newton. Wilton were 147 all out with Mills (5-21) the pick of the bowlers but Yates (4-30) was close behind.

Thruxton got off to a good start as openers Andy McGovern and Yates made use of the short boundaries and put on 55 in 11 overs before McGovern skied an easy catch to the wicketkeeper for 23. Simpson joined Yates and they added 45 in seven overs before he was bowled for 30. Simpson was in no mood to hang around, this time 48 runs were added in six overs as Steve Pickett contributed four to that total. Out of his 73 not out, 62 of Simpson’s runs were boundaries which capped a fine team performance for Thruxton and without any interruption from the weather.
