Hamble Club 0 Whitchurch United 0.

Whitchurch United made the awkward midweek journey to Hamble for the second in the pre season friendlies on Tuesday night and probably wished they hadn’t bothered after the game which kicked off just before 6.30pm eventually finished in gathering gloom at 9.15.

With half an hour gone Hamble’s Joe Bell fell awkwardly and broke his arm which led to an hour’s wait before he was taken away by paramedics.

In truth the sides had taken a dislike to each other from the start and tempers were rarely far from the surface.

Ryan Lambert, Dan Phillips and Jack McCarthy showed up well and Phillips had the best chance of the half after a mazy run but his shot was saved.

Goalkeeping coach Nigel Green replaced the injured Brad Snelling early on and kept a clean sheet and McCarthy had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down on the restart but little else of note happened.

New boss Carl Bennett introduced Ben Thomson up front and Adam Pearson at the back but the second half was a turgid affair with far too many postential flashpoints and it was a blessed relief when time was called.
