Ampfield and NB II v Thruxton.
Thruxton made it three wins out of three when they comprehensively defeated Ampfield II on Saturday.
Ampfield elected to bat on a scorching afternoon and on a solid strip which opening bowler Adam Mills took full advantage of with his usual hostile spell, though it was his opening bowling partner Matt Knight who left Ampfield 14-1 in the fourth over. That soon became 21-3 when Mills got in on the act taking two wickets including a rare catch for Andy McGovern. Knight took his second wicket leaving Ampfield in trouble on 22-4 after 8 overs then a superb direct hit by Charlie Spencer ran out Barnes and Knight ( 3-26) took his second catch and third wicket to reduce Ampfield to 42-6. Light became Sean Yates’ first victim then it became the Johnny Darling show with the 15-year old taking two in two balls in his double wicket maiden which reduced Ampfield to 65-9. Yates (2-10) finished the innings off in the 25th over when Knight took his third catch .
Thruxton were 14-2 but Yates and Paul Harvey put on 24 for the third wicket then Spencer (30no) and Yates (23no) soon racked up a 38 run partnership taking Thruxton past Ampfield’s total of 75 in the 18th over.
