At Tidworth Garrison Golf Club 50 young players gathered to compete for the Gus Taylor Trophy, a host of fantastic prizes, and courtesy of TaylorMade Golf - the opportunity to play at one of the UK's premier golf courses - the iconic West Course at the Wentworth Club in Surrey.

The event, the Tidworth Garrison GC Junior Open, was hosted and superbly organised by the Junior’s committee Sally Powell, Peter Blake and Brian Bosley.

Club captain Brian Hutchins made presentations to the winners.

The weather was set fair, with a stiff breeze enhancing the challenge and the course had been superbly prepared and the young men and women seized the opportunity to record some excellent scores.

In net terms Division 1 was won by Max Drayton of Wrag Barn GC with a net 66. Second was Katrina Duncan of Tidworth GGC with a net 68 and third was Adam Harris of Yeovil GC with a net 70.

The Second Division was won by Zachary Hine with a net 69 ahead of Alex Feltham of Chippenham GC who narrowly pipped Kyle Campbell of Wrag Barn on countback.

The Third Division was a clean sweep for the girls with Alex Sadler of TGGC winning with an astonishing net 58.

Seona Mauchline of High Post GC was second net 67 and third was Mia Law of TGGC with net 72.

Winners of each division were presented with the latest Taylormade driver - with second and third taking other prizes.

Ultimately, the winner of the Gus Taylor Trophy was Max Drayton of Wrag Barn GC who recorded a gross 71. Playing with Max at Wentworth will be Harris and Max Cheesley from Ogbourne Down GC.

Nearest the pin prizes were kindly donated by Tidworth member Dennis Fuller and were won by George Windsor of Cams Hall GC, James Sankey of Test Valley GC, Tom Edward of North Wilts GC and George Nicholson-Jack of Romsey GC.

While the early starters waited for the later players to finish their rounds, the Tidworth professionals Terry Gosden and Matt Miles laid on a club clinic, assessing loft, lie and shaft selections.

The day was a resounding success, with everybody having fun, competing hard and enjoying an excellent meal together.
