Broughton v Thruxton.

Thruxton bounced back from the previous week’s defeat with what turned put to be a resounding victory.

Broughton batted and lost their first wicket in the fourth over before a miserly spell of bowling from Adam Mills and Matt Knight with Broughton having great difficulty getting the ball off the table.

The next wicket fell in the 16th over with 46 runs on the board which started the rot and Broughton lost their remaining eight wickets for 58 runs.

Teenager Johnny Darling produced a great spell taking 4-36 off his six overs.

Skipper Paul Harvey weighed in with 3-30 off six with Mills taking 2-15 and Knight 1-18.

The bowlers were backed up by their fielders with seven catches including a stunner by John McHugh in his first game of cricket.

Thruxton's innings got off to a poor start when they were reduced to 27-3 by the sixth over as openers Andy McGovern and Ben Simpson were both deceived by balls that kept low and Matt Knight needlessly ran himself out.

Charlie Spencer and Darling set about rebuilding and both played watchful innings in difficult batting conditions.

They both defended the good balls well and scored off the bad balls and Spencer was the aggressor scoring 30 and Darling was the perfect foil playing a very mature innings for his age, scoring 15 out of the 81 run partnership.
