Predictions of 130mph top speeds were thwarted by high winds at Thruxton at the weekend, which was an additional round to the calendar, with no points to be gained.

It was just a chance to push the car to the limits at the fastest track in the country.

With the weather looking changeable and very windy, Andover’s Dawn Boyd went out to qualify just as it started to rain, but luckily it didn’t last long. She was reaching good speeds and placed herself sixth on the grid, the first of the front wheel drive cars behind a pack of fast BMW M3s, with a lap time of 1:34.07.

Racing well while still learning how the car would react at high speeds, Dawn had to hang on tight through the fast bumpy corners and was topping 120mph into a head wind up the Woodham Rise. She finished sixth with a better time of 1:33.43.

Race two was a whole different ball game being a handicapped race with a reversed grid and staggered start times.

Reaching speeds of 115mph through the infamous Church corner and up to 123mph before braking hard into the chicane Dawn was running fifth but was caught by the BMWs on the last corner and ended up seventh with her best time of 1:32.84.

With thanks to Finsport for making the long trip south, they now look forward to Brands Hatch on September 6 and 7 before the finale at Spa Francorchamps Formula 1 circuit in October.
